Please read and sign the Quilting Standards Form so that we know that you understand these options, limitations, and consequences.
Print Quilting Standards & Release Form
At the heart of our commitment to providing you and your clients with the ultimate in home interior fashion is the broad selection of quilting styles and patterns that we offer. This pamphlet contains descriptions of the styles of quilting that are available and information about their application. Also included are selected photographs of some of the more popular patterns of each style. All of our quilting is handcrafted, therefore we are not limited to any certain number of patterns, in fact our quilters are encouraged to regularly perfect new ones. Please inquire about any special pattern you may need.
The following information applies to all of our styles of quilting:
- The quilting process causes fabric to draw in 10% in each direction. Allowances for this shrinkage have been made in the yardage charts found in the various product pamphlets.
You are responsible for making these allowances when sending us roll or cut fabric for quilting only.
- All quilting includes lining appropriate for the final use that you designate (bedspread or upholstery).
- Hand guided quilting uses thread matched to the predominate color of your fabric as well as a lock stitch technique to prevent raveling.
OUTLINE QUILTING
This is the best style of quilting for prints because it enhances the existing design of the fabric. Not available for mini-prints.
FREEHAND QUILTING
As the name implies, these patterns are the perfected art of our quilters’ talents. Since each piece is handcrafted, no two are exactly the same, but all provide the custom appearance you desire. Many times, mini-prints are arranged in such a way that the pattern can be followed to create a geometric outline of the layout. This type of freehand quilting offers the same benefits as outline quilting because it enhances the existing design of the fabric.
Solid fabrics are a clean palette for the art of the freehand quilter. Each pattern is scaled to fit your needs. Parallel lines, such as channels, squares, or diamonds, are set at least 4” apart to minimize any visual “defects” of the craft. The spacing of quilting lines are also calculated to the nearest multiple that divides evenly between the seams of the spread so that the seams can be concealed with the quilting process.
HAND TACKING, BUTTONS, BOWS, AND TUFTS
The height of handcrafted quilting, hand tacking and the buttons and tufts that can be added, create a very special style of quilting. As the name indicates, it is done completely by hand, joining the face fabric, fiber, and lining with knotted stitches, evenly spaced, in a block or diamond formation. This type of quilting can be effectively used to convey anything from a simple craft style to an elegant, high fashion look.
Hand tacked quilting is stitched with several strands of embroidery floss that are matched to the predominate color of the fabric and a wide stitch is taken and cinched tight to pucker the fabric. After making a secure knot, the quilter cuts the floss, leaving an inch or so of tassel beyond the knot. This gives the distinctive look desired of hand tacking. Tacks are generally spaced in increments from 13” to 18” that work out evenly between the seams, giving a spacious, puffy look to the spread. If possible, tacks are arranged to accentuate the pattern of prints with an overall look that is uniform and harmonious with the design of the fabric.
There are several variations that are available with the hand tacked quilting. If a cleaner look is desired, you can specify that you would like to have the tassel of the tacks trimmed close to the knot. If you would like to highlight a contrasting color, you may indicate the color or combination of colors of floss you would like us to use for the tacks. Fabric covered buttons, grosgrain bows, or decorative yarn tufts may also be included at each tack to add to the varieties and options available. Tufts and grosgrain ribbon are COM. Please feel free to specify the spacing and arrangement of the tacking and the features you desire.
